Mystical Conference: Narrative for a Probable Sound-Speech Work, 2024

"Fiction is not about making music to be heard...

...the work of fiction is to imagine, even to manufacture a new ear..."

Mystical Conference: Narrative for a Probable Sound–Speech Work is not the work itself, but a plan—a draft, a scenario, or a sketch for a possible work. The reader does not encounter the work directly; instead, they are given a "sketch", cues, bits and pieces through which the work can be imagined.

The artist-book contains a fictional interview that traverses themes such as life, death, disaster, imposture, technology, memory and Turkey's recent political and social history. The interview is structured around the video-narrative work THEY SHALL EITHER HOPE OR FEAR #3 (2023), which was about a missing artist's group.

In the interview, in which fiction is used as an essential method to reach vital dimensions ignored by the dominant regimes of truth, the artists, who are not “missing” at all, camouflage their voices in various ways. In this strange aesthetic dimension, where the voices of famous figures from popular culture and sounds from a construction site intervene, the visual and the sonic merge on the same semi-transparent surface. The design of the book, the box, and the images (produced using artificial intelligence) are the outcome of ideas discussed in the interview, such as the “economy" or the “property regime of the dead.” In this respect, it can be stated that the work sets the economy of abundance of the dead against the economy of scarcity of the living.
